Lynnor Bontigao was afraid of math when she was in school and never thought about going into a field like computer programming. In fact, in college, she loved to draw and studied art. But it was really hard to find a job with that degree, so her brother told her to check out computer programming.
She found out that although some types of programming might call for a math whiz, other types of programming only need simple, basic math skills. And she also discovered she liked solving puzzles and using logic, which is what computer programming is all about. Her work involves creating instructions in a language that the computer understands -- sort of like a foreign language or a secret code. She especially enjoys designing flowcharts, which are like map drawings of how one system affects another or how data is passed along.
Although Lynnor hasn't lost her love of drawing, she also loves her job as a programmer analyst, which she finds challenging, rewarding and even fun!
